Welcome to Leadership Programs
The Department of Student Activities is the central office that coordinates the leadership development efforts at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The department offers several leadership development opportunities. Outlined below are several which are offered. For more information on any of these programs, please contact the Assistant Director of Student Activities for Leadership Development at 361-593-2760.
Exposing and Cultivating Emerging Leaders (ExCEL)
ExCel is designed to develop Texas A&M-Kingsville’s leaders of tomorrow by enhancing integrity and building motivation and providing a positive environment for the growth of leadership and social skills necessary to maximize one’s Javelina potential.
ExCEL 2007-2008 will offer a variety of opportunities for freshmen/transfer students to enhance their knowledge of the campus community through a series of fun and fact filled sessions and university sponsored events.
Texas A&M-Kingsville, through Balfour College Jewelry Company, will provide one official class ring to a graduating senior who has excelled in leadership activities, positively impacted the campus and/or the community at-large and overcome educational and/or financial challenges while in school. One ring is offered for graduates in December, May and August.
South Texas Leadership Conference (STLC)
STLC is a leadership conference hosted between Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M International University in Laredo. Each campus brings students from their school to improve their leadership skills and develop new ideas. There is no fee to attend.
Student Leadership and Recognition Awards
In the spring semester, we host the Student Leadership and Recognition Awards ceremony. We honor our top student leaders and organizations at this annual reception. Student leaders, advisors and other members of the university community may submit nominations for all the awards.

Student Organization Leadership Conference
Each September, this leadership conference is held. At least two members of each student organization must attend in order for an organization to be recognized for the academic year. If more than two students from an organization want to attend, they may do so as long as total attendance does not exceed capacity (this may be different each year, so contact Student Activities for more information).
