Do I have to pay to attend orientation

There is a $75 orientation fee that is included with your fees on your tuition bill. The orientation fee is a one-time mandatory fee charged to new first time college attendees and transfer students with less than 30 hours.

Who should attend orientation?

All first year full-time students and full-time transfer students with 30 credit hours or less should attend the Hoggie Days orientation program.

Transfer student with 30 or more credit hours have the option to participate in one of the Transfer Sessions provided.

When will I get more information about Orientation?

Information regarding Hoggie Days is on our website at http://osa.tamuk.edu/orientation. After you have registered for orientation, you will receive an e-mail at least one week prior to your Hoggie Days date with additional information.

Is Orientation mandatory for all new, full-time students?

All new, full-time students with less than 30 credit hours are required to participate and attend all sessions during their orientation. Hoggie Days is designed to help you feel comfortable and confident on our campus when you start your classes. We believe that Orientation is a vital part of transitioning into college life.

**Please keep in mind that all new students with less than 30 hours will be assessed the $75 mandatory orientation fee regardless of participation.

What should I do if I cannot attend orientation?

If you cannot attend orientation because of extenuating circumstances, you must send written notification to:

Please keep in mind that you will be billed an orientation fee regardless of attendance at an orientation session.

What if I need to change my session date?

There are a limited number of spaces available for each academic college. Sessions will fill quickly. If for any reason you need to change from one session to another your options may be limited depending on your timing. Registration is a live system, first-come first-serve. Be sure to contact us via e-mail at orientation@tamuk.edu to inform us of your request for a change. We will make the change for you.

Will there be activities for my family?

There is a Family Orientation Program that runs concurrently with Hoggie Days. Family members will have an opportunity to hear from representatives of key areas on campus and asked questions that are vital to their student's success. Students and family members will also get to spend time together in some of the general sessions such as financial aid, business office, and residence life.

There is no cost for families to attend the Family Orientation Program although they are responsible for paying for their own meals on-campus.

Will I be able to purchase my books during orientation?

Yes, there will be time during or after orientation for new students to purchase their books. To purchase textbooks, be sure to bring a check, cash, or a credit card and a copy of your class schedule.

How do I register for classes?

You will register for classes at orientation. Your academic advisor will assist you in choosing classes for your major and will register you for your classes. Orientation Leaders will also be available to assist with this process.

How do I get my Javelina Express card (student ID)?

After you are registered for classes, you can visit the Javelina Express Card Office and obtain your ID. Your ID will be needed throughout your college career for purchasing parking decals, getting into sporting events, accessing library services, accessing your residence hall and meal plan, and some professors require it for exams.

How do I get my parking decal?

Closer to the start of the summer/fall semester you will need to visit the University Police Department at the corner of Armstrong Street and Santa Gertrudis Street to obtain your parking decal. Make sure to have your student ID, driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

How do I take care of my bill or find out about financial aid?

During Hoggie Days you will have the opportunity to attend a session with financial aid and business office representatives to get more information learn about your options as far as payment.
