At the heart of a great university is a great library. A&M-Kingsville’s James C. Jernigan Library, named for the university’s seventh president, has a collection of 500,000 volumes and more than half a million documents in microform. In addition, the library subscribes to 2,200 journals and magazines and provides access to more than 70 online databases. The library is a selective Federal and State depository library. The South Texas Archives houses rare books, manuscripts, official archival records of the university, microforms, photographs and oral history tapes. The South Texas Archives was designed as a regional Historical Resource Depository for the Texas State Library and Archives System and holds records from the 11 surrounding counties. The library also houses a computer lab on the third floor.
