Weapons Policy

Texas A&M University-Kingsville strives to provide a safe and secure environment for its students, staff, and faculty. Texas A&M University-Kingsville prohibits the possession or storage of any weapons, fireworks or explosives on university premises or at any university-sponsored activity, except in the following cases: law enforcement personnel engaged in the official performance of their assigned duties; approved university experiments and/or projects; transporting of firearms to and from a place of storage; ROTC, under the direction of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and other approved academic use. The term "weapons" may be defined as any object or substance designed to inflict a wound, cause injury or incapacitate.


Weapons include, but are not limited to:

Weapons include, but are not limited to:

1. Revolvers, pistols, BB guns, pellet guns, stun guns,
2. Chemical weapons
3. Knives
4. Slingshots
5. Bows and arrows
6. Martial arts weapons

Toy weapons that look like real weapons are similarly prohibited on campus. Possessing or storing of such weapons may result in disciplinary action. University officials encourage anyone who has or owns any weapon to contact the University Police Department to arrange for storage of such items. All requests, exceptions, and interpretation of this policy will be managed by the University's Chief of Police. The decision of the Chief of Police may be appealed to the Associate Vice President for Support Services. The decision of the Associate Vice President for Support Services is final. Loitering Policy

Loitering on university-owned or controlled property, including buildings and parking lots, is prohibited. Loitering on university premises is defined as lingering idly or aimlessly in any area of the campus without official authority. Hanging around in clusters and creating or causing unusually loud and disturbing noises and wandering aimlessly about campus (especially around residence halls) between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. is a violation of university policy. Anyone identified loitering on campus will be cited for violation of the loitering policy and reported to the Dean of Students. Offenders will be subject to disciplinary action.
