WELCOME FROM THE ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS/DEAN OF STUDENTS

Dear Student,

Welcome to Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Whether you are a first-time, transfer or returning student, an exciting time awaits you this coming semester.  In order to become “campus smart,” you need to become familiar with this handbook.  Valuable information has been printed specifically with you, the student, in mind.  Peruse and review the various student policies and definitely become familiar with the Student Code of Conduct.  They can all be found in this publication.

We know that you are very much interested in attaining academic success, and we want to assist you.  The Division of Student Affairs is not only interested in your academic success, but in your social and professional development.  We encourage you to become involved in activities throughout campus.  Investigate the types of student organizations that are available in your college, specifically those relating to your major.  The university is a mecca for many activities, like plays, art exhibits, music concerts, lectures, intramural sports and many others.

The Division of Student Affairs also offers workshops on time management, study skills, test taking and other topics.  Your college and/or academic department also may offer these types of assistance to ensure success while you are here.  Contact your advisor for more information on where and when these programs are offered.  The faculty and staff at Texas A&M-Kingsville are very interested in your success.  Remember though that much of your success is dependent on you.

Good luck!

Sincerely yours,

Frank B. Ureño

Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students
